Pastoruri Glacier is a glacier in Peru located to the south of the Cordillera Blanca, within the Huascarán National Park, which was declared a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site in 1985. It stretches along the northern face of Mount Pastoruri, originating at an altitude of 5,201 meters (17,064 ft) above sea level and descending to 5,001 meters (16,409 ft) above sea level.

With the morphology of a glacial valley, Pastoruri stands as a testament to the effects of climate change, as it is currently in retreat. This is evident in the bands of exposed rocks and debris at its forefront, along with small lateral lagoons formed in depressions left behind by the glacier.

Itinerary

DAY 01: HUARAZ - PASTORURI - HUARAZ

08:30 a.m. Departure from your hotel or designated meeting point, heading south of Huaraz. Enjoy stunning views of the southern Cordillera Blanca while passing through the picturesque towns of Recuay, Ticapampa, and Catac.
First stop: Patococha, also known as the Duck Lagoon, a peaceful spot where you can observe wild ducks in their natural habitat, surrounded by beautiful scenery.
Second stop: The Puma Pampa Carbonated Spring, a unique site featuring bubbling waters and spectacular views of the Mururaju Glacier.
Third stop: Pumapashimi Lagoon, also known as the Seven Colors Spring, famous for its vibrant water hues, which legend says are the origin of the rainbow.
Fourth stop: Discover the high Andean flora as we visit the *Puya Raimondii*, an endemic plant of the region known for its towering size and unique shape.
Fifth stop: Arrive at the Pastoruri Base Camp to begin a hike to the glacier (approximately 40 minutes). Alternatively, you can rent horses for a more comfortable journey (additional cost).
Final stop: On our way back, we’ll stop in Ticapampa to enjoy a delicious lunch.
Return to Huaraz.

What is the best season to do the tour?

The ideal season is from May to October. However, the hike can be done year-round; you only need to bring waterproof clothing to protect yourself from the rain.

How to get to Huaraz?

By air: Anta Airport (ATA, Comandante FAP Germán Arias Graziani Airport) is currently only for domestic flights, so all international travelers by air must disembark in Lima and go through customs.

The best way to get to Huaraz is by air, currently there is only one airline operating: LATAM.
Flight time: 1 hour 10 minutes.

By land: This is the most common route, with a paved road of 404 km from Lima. Try to book the bus cama service for a more comfortable journey and rest during the trip.

We recommend the following companies: CIVA, Movil Bus, Cruz del Sur, Julio Cesar, Linea.
Travel time by bus: 8 hours.
